Miracles Aboagye released from EOCO custody after meeting bail conditions

Top Bawumia ally, Dennis “Miracles” Aboagye, has been released from the custody of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) after meeting his bail conditions.
The former Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD) walked free on Tuesday evening after satisfying the terms of his bail.
Aboagye, an aide to New Patriotic Party (NPP) flag bearer Dr Mahamadu Bawumia, was seen in a video circulating on social media wearing a white T-shirt as he was escorted from the EOCO premises by close associates amid cheers from party supporters.
Earlier, scores of NPP faithful had gathered outside the Economic and Organised Crime Office to demand his release, describing his arrest as politically motivated and calling on investigators to respect his constitutional rights.
His release comes days after EOCO confirmed his arrest following his interception at Kotoka International Airport over investigations into an alleged GH¢55 million financial scandal linked to the IMCCoD Secretariat.
EOCO said the investigation was triggered by a petition from the current Executive Secretary of IMCCoD, seeking further investigations into a forensic audit covering the period between August 1, 2022, and February 2, 2025.
According to the Office, Aboagye and the committee’s former accountant, Gerald Appiah, are among persons under investigation over the suspected misappropriation, misapplication, diversion and theft of public funds, as well as procurement-related irregularities.
Investigators are also probing allegations including conspiracy to steal, stealing, using public office for profit, causing financial loss to the state, dissipation of public funds, defrauding by false pretences and money laundering.
EOCO disclosed that Aboagye had been placed on a Stop Order after investigators uncovered what it described as significant new findings relating to suspected fraud and theft. However, the Office said he had already travelled before the directive took effect and was intercepted by immigration officials upon his return to Ghana.
Last week, Aboagye announced his intention to contest for the National Communications Officer position of the opposition NPP.
EOCO has maintained that investigations into the alleged financial irregularities remain ongoing despite Aboagye’s release on bail.
