NAIMOS warns against attacks on officers after arrests at Subin Akwaboaso

The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has warned that it will refer individuals who attack its personnel or obstruct its operations to the relevant authorities after an enforcement exercise was disrupted at Subin Akwaboaso in the Central Region.
The warning follows the arrest of some suspected illegal miners during an operation on Sunday afternoon, November 1, 2026.
NAIMOS said its personnel, working alongside members of the Special Boat Squadron (SBS), encountered considerable resistance from a group of individuals during the exercise.
Some members of the group were reportedly wielding cutlasses, firearms and other offensive weapons, creating what the Secretariat described as a risk to its personnel and other people present.
The Director of Operations at NAIMOS, Colonel K. S. Appiah, led the enforcement team and, according to the Secretariat, directed officers to exercise maximum restraint and take decisive measures to prevent further escalation.
In a statement Monday, November 2, the Secretariat described obstruction of lawful enforcement activities as a serious concern and cautioned individuals against attacking officers or interfering with its operations.
“Considering the obstruction encountered, NAIMOS wishes to reiterate that any obstruction of lawful enforcement is a serious concern and individuals suspected of attacking personnel or obstructing operations will be referred to the relevant authorities for necessary action,” it stated.
The Secretariat also reaffirmed its commitment to conducting enforcement activities within the law, adding that it would take necessary and proportionate measures to protect its personnel, accompanying journalists and members of the public.
It appealed to community leaders and residents to support its operations while raising concerns through appropriate channels.
NAIMOS further indicated that its anti-illegal mining activities would continue with support from the government and the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, alongside collaboration with security agencies, regulatory institutions and communities.
