NDC will extend Free SHS to cover Private Schools – Dr. Apaak
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced plans to extend its Free Senior High School (SHS) policy to cover private schools. This was revealed by Honorable Dr. Clement Apaak, Member of Parliament for Builsa South Constituency, at the NDC’s Sectoral Press Briefing on its 2024 Manifesto.
According to Dr. Apaak, “The next NDC/Mahama government will extend Free SHS to cover students in private Senior High Schools.” This move aims to ensure that all students, regardless of their school of choice, have access to quality education without financial burden.
Dr. Apaak emphasized the NDC’s commitment to education, stating, “The power of education to transform nations, societies, and individuals is well documented and self-evident. This is why the NDC, since its inception, has always prioritized education at all levels.”
The extension of Free SHS to private schools is part of the NDC’s comprehensive plan to reset the education sector and enhance quality outcomes. Dr. Apaak highlighted the need to address the challenges facing the sector, including infrastructural deficits, inconsistent curricula, and poor industrial relations.
“The next NDC government will comprehensively reset our educational system in collaboration with all stakeholders. Our goal is to aggressively expand infrastructure, enhance teacher welfare and professional development, and increase investments in the sector for quality outcomes,” Dr. Apaak stated.
The NDC has also promised to abolish the double-track system, which has been widely criticized for its disruption to the academic calendar. Dr. Apaak stated that the NDC will restore a stable one-track academic calendar, ensuring that students have a smooth and uninterrupted learning experience.
The NDC has pledged to increase investments in TVET education, provide free technical and vocational training for young people, and establish regional TVET Centres of Excellence.
Dr. Apaak concluded by emphasizing the importance of quality education in transforming the nation. “Vote for John Dramani Mahama to ensure every Ghanaian child gets quality education. Help us to rescue and reset our education for our collective good.”
