‘No cell will stop me from leading NPP communications’ – Miracles Aboagye

Aide to NPP Flagbearer, Dennis “Miracles” Aboagye, says his detention by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) will not stop his ambition to lead the New Patriotic Party’s communications directorate.

The former Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD) made the declaration in a Facebook post on Wednesday, a day after he was released from EOCO custody after meeting his bail conditions.

Aboagye, who recently declared his intention to contest for the National Communications Director position of the opposition NPP, said attempts to intimidate him had failed.

“Let me be clear: if the intention was to break me, it has failed. If the intention was to scare me, it has failed spectacularly.”

He added: “I will lead New Patriotic Party’s Communications Directorate to command the narrative, and no cell, no false story, no intimidation will change that.”

Aboagye also rejected what he described as false claims surrounding his detention, insisting investigators never discussed an alleged GH¢55 million scandal with him.

“For the records: there was no discussion of any GH¢55 million with me by EOCO. None.”

He thanked party supporters who demonstrated outside EOCO during his detention, saying their solidarity strengthened his resolve.

“To every party faithful who hit the streets, who raised their voices, who refused to be silent, I saw you. I heard you… You did not just defend Dennis Miracles Aboagye; you defended the principle that no voice can be intimidated into silence.”

The former government official concluded that his detention had only strengthened his determination.

“Fuel has only been added to the fire.”

Aboagye was released from EOCO custody on Tuesday evening after meeting his bail conditions.

His release followed his arrest after he was intercepted at Kotoka International Airport over investigations into an alleged GH¢55 million financial scandal linked to the IMCCoD Secretariat.

EOCO said the investigation stemmed from a petition by the current Executive Secretary of IMCCoD following a forensic audit covering August 1, 2022, to February 2, 2025.

According to the Office, Aboagye and the committee’s former accountant, Gerald Appiah, are being investigated over alleged misappropriation, diversion and theft of public funds, procurement irregularities and other suspected financial offences.

EOCO has maintained that investigations remain ongoing despite Aboagye’s release on bail.
