Former Director of Communications at the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dennis Miracles Aboagye, says his recent detention by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has failed to break or intimidate him.
In a social media post following his release, Mr. Aboagye said he was detained four days after declaring his intention to serve as the NPP’s National Communications Director.
“Four days ago, just one day after I declared my intention to serve our great party as National Communications Director, I was picked up and detained by EOCO,” he stated.
He also rejected what he described as a “false narrative” surrounding his detention, insisting that no discussions were held between him and EOCO regarding GH¢55 million.
“For the records: There was no discussion of any GH¢55 million cedis with me by EOCO. None!!!” he said.
Mr. Aboagye expressed gratitude to NPP supporters who took to the streets and protested during his detention, saying their actions strengthened his resolve.
“To every party faithful who hit the streets, who raised their voices, who refused to be silent, I saw you. I heard you,” he said.
“From my detention, word of your protests reached me, and it kept my spirit standing tall,” he added.
According to him, the protests were not only in his defence but also represented a broader principle against the intimidation of voices.
He added that he would lead the NPP’s communications directorate with determination if given the opportunity.
“I will lead New Patriotic Party’s communications Directorate to command the narrative, and no cell, no false story, no intimidation will change that,” he said.
Concluding his statement, Mr. Aboagye said his experience had only strengthened his resolve.
“Fuel has only been added to the fire,” he declared.
This followed his release after being arrested by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) at Kotoka International Airport in Accra over his alleged involvement in the misappropriation, theft, and diversion of about GH¢55 million in public funds.
