Otumfuo destools linguist

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has destooled his linguist, Kofi Nti, during the Asanteman Council’s first meeting after his return from leave.
The development, shared in a post on X, followed a sitting of the Asanteman Council at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on April 20, 2026.
The meeting marked the first gathering since the Asantehene resumed duties after a period of absence, with key traditional authorities presenting updates on their stewardship.
Nana Dwamena Akenten II, Offinsohene, and Baffour Amankwatia VI, Bantamahene, who had been entrusted with overseeing Asanteman and Kumasi respectively, delivered reports on their roles during Otumfuo’s leave.
The Council session also saw newly enstooled Paramount Chiefs express appreciation to the Asantehene.
Among them were Daasebre Osei Bonsu III, Asante Mamponghene, Nana Saforo Baah III, Woraworahene, and Nana Kwaku Dankwa Opamago Kodie II, Juansahene.
In addition, updates were presented on multiple cases handled by various committees under the Council.
However, the highlight of the meeting was the destoolment of Otumfuo Kyeame Kofi Nti, a decision rooted in several concerns raised during proceedings.
According to reports, questions were raised about his lineage and his inability to properly perform key ceremonial duties, particularly the correct invocation of the Otumfuo Ntam Kɛseɛ.
He was also accused of mishandling the sacred invocations by retaining more of them than is customarily allowed for someone in his position.
The Council further pointed to his failure to duly report such invocations as required, describing the lapse as a serious violation of the responsibilities attached to the role of a Kyeame.
Additional concerns were linked to claims of his involvement in the improper enstoolment of an Ayaase Dikro, an issue brought before the Council by the Ayaasehene.
These matters, taken together, were deemed significant enough to warrant his removal from office, underscoring the Council’s commitment to upholding tradition and accountability within the Asanteman structure.
