Parliament approves final batch of Mahama appointees

Parliament has approved the final batch of President Mahama’s ministerial nominees. The House has approved four Deputy Ministerial nominees of the President by a unanimous decision following a recommendation for their approval by a consensus by the Appointments Committee.
Dr. Grace Ayensu-Danquah, Member of Parliament for Essikado-Ketan, heading for the Health Ministry as deputy Minister; Dorcas Affo-Toffey, MP for Jomoro, headed for the Transport Ministry; James Gyakye Quayson, MP for Assin North, as Deputy Minister designate for Foreign Affairs; and Mohammed Adams Sukparu, MP for Sissala West, Deputy Minister designate for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, are now awaiting their swearing in by President Mahama to take office and assist their substantive bosses.
Presenting the report to the House, the Chairman of the Committee, Bernard Ahiafor, stated that the Committee had reviewed all relevant documents, invited public input, and held a public hearing on Friday, 25th July 2025. During the hearing, nominees responded to questions about their qualifications, professional experiences, and policy outlook for their respective portfolios.
“Following thorough scrutiny, the Committee found all nominees competent and suitable. It therefore recommends by consensus that the House approves the nomination of all four individuals for appointment as Deputy Ministers,” Ahiafor stated.
The nominations were referred to the Appointments Committee by the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, on 17th July 2025.
This followed President Mahama’s submission of the names in accordance with Articles 78(1) and 79(1) of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.
The approval of the four nominees brings to the total number of ministers and deputy ministers to 60 as promised by President Mahama in the run up to the 2024 general election.
