Police arrest 45-year old TikToker over false publication

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested a 45-year-old man for allegedly publishing false claims about police officers in Kumasi.
The suspect, identified as Isaac Boafo, also known as “Duabo King,” was picked up in connection with a viral video circulated on TikTok. In the video, he allegedly accused four officers stationed at the Central Police Station in Kumasi of engaging in inappropriate conduct with commercial sex workers during night patrols at Asafo.
According to a press release issued by the Police Regional Headquarters in Kumasi, the arrest followed intelligence gathered after the video gained traction on social media.
“The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested one Isaac Boafo, aged 45 years also known as ‘Duabo King,’ for the offence of publication of false news with intent to cause fear and panic,” the statement said.
Police indicated that officers from the Police Intelligence Directorate in the Ashanti Region apprehended the suspect. During questioning, he reportedly admitted to publishing the video and acknowledged that he could not substantiate the allegations made against the officers.
“During interrogation, Isaac Boafo admitted to publishing the video and stated that he is a social media content creator who made the allegations solely to attract views and online engagement,” the statement noted.
The Command further disclosed that the suspect conceded he had no evidence to support the claims.
“He further admitted that he could not substantiate the claims made against the officers,” the release added.
Police also stated that the suspect acknowledged making comments about the President of the Republic for content creation purposes and admitted he could not defend those statements.
The suspect has since been formally charged and is being detained to assist with ongoing investigations.

The Police Command cautioned the public against the publication and circulation of false information, particularly on social media platforms, warning of the potential consequences.
“The Police wish to caution the public against the publication and circulation of false information, particularly on social media, as such acts have the potential to cause unnecessary fear, panic, and reputational damage,” the statement stressed.
