Police arrest 54 in anti-drug and crime operations

The Bono Regional Police Command has apprehended 54 individuals in a series of coordinated raids targeting drug-related offences, illicit drug use, and robbery-linked criminal activities across the region.
The operations form part of the Police Service’s ongoing efforts to maintain law and order ahead of the festive season.
According to police, the exercise was conducted through intelligence-led operations spearheaded by the Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) and supported by other operational units. The initiative focused on communities identified as hotspots for criminal activity, ensuring that both residents and visitors could enjoy a safer environment during the holidays.
Several towns and districts were targeted during the operation, including Abesim, Banda, Nkrankwanta, Odumase, Dumasua, Wenchi, and Dormaa. Officers moved strategically to dismantle suspected hideouts, disrupt illegal drug operations, and intercept criminal networks thought to be responsible for a rise in thefts and robberies in the region.
The suspects, aged between 18 and 45, were found in possession of various items linked to illegal activities. Police seized quantities of tramadol, wrappers of dried leaves and seeds suspected to be Indian hemp, a small crusher, six pairs of scissors, a green tricycle commonly known as pragya, two boxes of matches, and a box of cigarettes. All items were retained as evidence to support ongoing investigations.
A police stated that the arrests have since been followed by arraignment and remand in police custody to allow further investigations into the suspects’ alleged activities. The Regional Police Command emphasized that the operation demonstrates a proactive approach to combating criminality and underscores the Police Service’s commitment to protecting communities.
“These operations are part of our continuous strategy to rid our communities of criminal elements and ensure safety during the festive season,” police said in a statement. “We will continue to use intelligence-driven enforcement to disrupt criminal networks and safeguard the people of the Bono Region.”
The Bono Regional Police Command has also urged the public to cooperate by providing credible information on criminal activities. Authorities believe community collaboration is key to dismantling criminal networks and maintaining law and order in the region.
