Police inspector interdicted over alleged defilement in Mamponteng

The Ashanti North Regional Police Command has interdicted a police officer, Inspector Desmond Owusu Afriyie, stationed at the Mamponteng District in the Ashanti Region. This follows allegations of defilement and incest, which are currently under investigation.
In a press release issued by the Ghana Police Service, Public Affairs Unit, Mampong/Ashanti North, referenced My Ref. No. ASHNK/PA/120/9 (May, 2026), the Command confirmed that the case is being handled by the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) at the Agona District.
According to the statement, the complaint was formally lodged on 4th November, 2025 by one Charlotte Samaa of Koforidua in the Eastern Region on behalf of her 14-year-old daughter.
“The complaint was lodged on 4th November, 2025 by one Charlotte Samaa of Koforidua/ER on behalf of her 14-year-old daughter, alleging that the victim had been sexually abused by her biological father,” the release indicated.
Following the report, the victim was referred to a government health facility for medical examination to support ongoing investigations.
The Police Command further disclosed that the suspect reported himself to the Agona DOVVSU office on 20/02/2026, where he was arrested and a cautioned statement obtained.
Upon interrogation, Inspector Owusu Afriyie denied the allegations. He was subsequently granted enquiry bail and directed to report periodically as investigations continue.
“The Inspector is currently being interdicted to pave way for further investigation,” the statement confirmed.
The Ashanti North Regional Police Command assured the public that investigations are being conducted thoroughly and professionally, and that updates will be communicated as appropriate.
“The Ashanti North Regional Police Command wishes to assure the public of its commitment to thorough investigations into the matter and will communicate further developments,” it added.
