Police interdict five officers over social media misconduct

The Ghana Police Service has interdicted five officers for allegedly misusing police uniforms on social media, pending investigations by the Professional Standards Bureau.
The interdiction was announced in a press release issued on December 16, 2025, by the Public Affairs Directorate of the Ghana Police Service, acting on what it described as acts of misconduct involving unauthorised use of official police attire online.
According to the statement, the affected officers are No. 45545 G/Sgt. Samuel Agbemanyale, No. 50300 G/Cpl. Isaac Mpere, No. 51816 G/Cpl. Samuel Agbo, No. 56563 G/Cpl. Charles Oduro, and No. 14494 PW/Const. Elizabeth Dicka Korkor.
“The Ghana Police Service has interdicted the following personnel of the Service for various acts of misconduct involving the use of the Police uniform for unauthorized purposes on social media,” the statement said, outlining the basis for the disciplinary action.
The interdiction is part of established internal procedures and does not amount to a declaration of guilt.
It stressed that the measure allows for independent investigations to be carried out without interference while ensuring professional standards are upheld within the Service.
The statement further noted that the officers “have since been referred to the Police Professional Standards Bureau for further investigation and necessary disciplinary action,” signalling that additional sanctions could follow depending on the outcome of the inquiries.
In recent years, the Ghana Police Service has repeatedly cautioned officers against posting images or videos in uniform without approval, warning that such actions could compromise security, professionalism and the integrity of the Service.
The latest interdictions are expected to reinforce earlier directives and serve as a deterrent to others.
Signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police Richmond Mensah for the Director-General of Public Affairs, the release reaffirmed the Police Service’s commitment to accountability.
“The Service will continue to take appropriate action against personnel whose conduct falls below the required standards,” it said.
On X, users remained divided over the administrative decision occasioned by the conduct of the five police officers. While some celebrated the announcement, others were doubtful that punitive measures would be taken.
“We are quick to be informed about interdiction,s but what happens thereafter is always kept from us .
What has become of the Police Officer who was interdicted for assaulting the journalist during the Ablekuma North bye-elections, wrote one user.
“So we don’t have the right to know the outcome eerr hmm,” another commented.
The Police Professional Standards Bureau is expected to complete its investigations and make recommendations in line with police regulations, after which the affected officers will be informed of the next steps.
