Police seize 152 bales of suspected narcotics in Western region

The Western Regional Police Command has intercepted two trucks loaded with 152 bales of dried leaves suspected to be narcotics and arrested three men.
The suspects have been identified as Moses Kwaku Tawiah, 44; Kwame Kontor, 44; and Kwabena Forson, 55.
Police said the operation took place on Sunday, February 22, 2026, at about 5:20 p.m. when officers on duty at the Assorkor barrier near Shama stopped a Kia Rhino truck with registration number GE 8965-12. The vehicle was loaded with bales believed to contain narcotic substances. Upon spotting the police, the occupants of the truck fled the scene.
According to the police, Moses Kwaku Tawiah later appeared at the barrier and claimed that the impounded truck belonged to his brother. He reportedly pleaded with officers to release the vehicle but was arrested. During interrogation, he admitted that he was in charge of another truck — a Hyundai Gold with registration number GS 3368-17 — which was also loaded with similar goods and parked at Nkroful, Block Factory near Sekondi.
Police officers, accompanied by the suspect, proceeded to the location and found the Hyundai truck parked there. Further checks revealed that each bale contained approximately 80 slabs of the compressed substance.
In a related development, police said that at about 2:00 a.m. on February 23, 2026, Isaac Kwame Kontor and Kwabena Forson arrived at the same barrier with GH¢69,000 in cash, allegedly in an attempt to bribe officers to release the impounded trucks. The money was taken and the two men were immediately arrested to assist with investigations.
The two trucks have since been impounded, and the GH¢69,000 retained as evidence. All three suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue.
The Western Regional Police Command has assured the public of its commitment to combating drug trafficking and related offences in the region.
