Sammy Crabbe attributes NPP’s struggles to internal weaknesses
Sammy Crabbe has stated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) struggles are the result of internal weaknesses. He argued that the party’s own members have done more harm than external opposition.
Former Second National Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammy Crabbe, has stated that the party’s setbacks are primarily rooted in its internal weaknesses, confirming his long-held view that the NPP’s greatest problem is from within. He noted that this internal challenge has significantly damaged the reputation of the NPP and eroded the trust of Ghanaians.
According to Mr. Crabbe, the New Patriotic Party’s current struggles are directly linked to its internal structures and the actions of some of its members, who have caused reputational harm and left the party battling to regain public confidence. He explained that the brand of the NPP has been tainted, making it increasingly difficult for Ghanaians to connect with the party as they once did.
Speaking on TV3’s Hot Issues programme on Sunday, August 31, 2025, Sammy Crabbe emphasized that the NPP’s internal weaknesses are more damaging than external opposition. He insisted that the party must first cleanse itself, rebuild its systems, and restore transparency if it hopes to convince Ghanaians to trust it again.
His comments come at a time when the New Patriotic Party is undergoing reforms in the wake of its heavy loss in the 2024 general elections. As part of the restructuring process, the party recently granted amnesty to suspended members and invited them back, hoping to heal divisions. At the National Delegates Conference held on July 19, 2025, delegates also approved 54 motions aimed at reshaping policies and strengthening the party’s internal structures.
The NPP has additionally expanded the base of its delegates who will elect the party’s presidential flagbearer in January 2026. Leaders of the party believe this reform will create inclusivity, restore trust, and energize its grassroots ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Sammy Crabbe, however, maintained that these reforms will only succeed if the NPP directly addresses its internal weaknesses. He stressed that Ghanaians need to see fairness, justice, and inclusivity in how the party operates before trust can be restored. Without that, he warned, the NPP’s struggles will persist and its chances in 2028 may remain uncertain.
