Six suspects escape from Kotokuraba police custody

The Central Regional Police Command has launched a manhunt for six suspects who escaped from lawful custody at the Kotokuraba police station in Cape Coast.
Police confirmed that the six suspects—identified as Kofi Asifuah, Ernest Kojo, Ekow Arhinful, Toffic Faisal, Henry Kwofie, and Innusah Addai—escaped custody on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at about 9:00 pm. They had been arrested for various criminal offences.
According to the police account, the incident occurred after the supervising inspector at the Kotokuraba station sent the station orderly to buy food for the inmates at about 8:40 pm, following complaints of hunger. Shortly after, the inmates requested water to flush the WC since taps were not flowing. In the process of opening the cell door to provide water, six of the eight suspects overpowered the inspector and fled.
A police statement explained that efforts were immediately launched to re-arrest the escapees. “The District Commander, upon receipt of the information, led the night patrol team in search of the suspects, but they could not be traced,” the statement noted.
The Central Regional Police Command has since appealed to the public to assist with credible information that could lead to the re-arrest of the suspects. “We are urging anyone with information about the whereabouts of these individuals to contact the nearest police station immediately,” the police appealed.
Authorities say the two remaining inmates are still in custody as investigations continue into how the jailbreak occurred. Meanwhile, disciplinary measures are expected to be taken as part of the internal review of the incident.
The police command has assured the public that every effort is being made to track down the six fugitives and restore confidence in security operations in the region.
