Sports Minister commends Golden Arms after 53-medal victory in Abuja

Ghana’s national armwrestling team, the Golden Arms, has once again asserted its dominance on the continental stage, clinching a total of 53 medals at the 14th Africa Armwrestling Championship held in Abuja, Nigeria.
The team wrapped up the tournament with 24 gold, 20 silver, and 9 bronze medals — a performance that has drawn high praise from the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams.
In a statement released on Sunday, July 27, the Sector Minister lauded the Golden Arms for what he described as a commanding and well-earned victory. “The team’s success is a reflection of Ghana’s competitive edge and continued rise in continental sports,” he stated.
According to the Minister, this milestone is the result of years of strategic effort. He credited the Ghana Armwrestling Federation’s commitment to grassroots development, disciplined athlete grooming, and robust collaborations with both public and private stakeholders for laying the foundation for such consistent success.
“This is not a one-off triumph,” he noted. “It speaks to the Federation’s structured investment in talent and the productive partnerships that support our athletes behind the scenes.”
He acknowledged the role of sponsors, health service providers, insurers, and logistics partners who ensured the team’s readiness for the continental event. Their support, he said, exemplifies the power of collective national effort toward sporting excellence.
Hon. Adams gave assurance that government backing would not wane. He reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to providing technical and logistical support for the Federation as it prepares for upcoming international competitions, including the 2027 African Games.
Describing the Golden Arms’ performance as inspiring, Hon. Adams called on all Ghanaians to rally behind the team and help sustain this upward trajectory.
The Golden Arms’ achievement in Abuja adds to Ghana’s growing stature in global armwrestling and strengthens the country’s reputation as one of Africa’s most consistent medal-producing nations in the sport.
