Today.com.gh Poll: A clarion call for Akwasi Oppong Fosu as NDC National Chairman

Chairman of the Board of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), Dr. Akwasi Oppong Fosu, has emerged as the favourite candidate in a Today.com.gh readers’ poll on the National Democratic Congress chairmanship race.
The online poll, conducted by Today.com.gh ahead of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) internal elections later this year, asked readers to indicate their preferred candidate for the party’s top organisational position.
Dr. Oppong Fosu secured a commanding 327 votes, well ahead of his closest challenger, Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuje, who received 96 votes. Former National Chairman Dr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo placed third with 36 votes, while Ghana’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Alhaji Said Sinare, obtained 21 votes. First National Vice Chairman Chief Sofo Awudu Azorka received three votes.

The outcome reflects the preferences of participants in the online poll and does not represent the official position of the NDC or predict the final outcome of the party’s elections.
Dr. Oppong Fosu is a veteran member of the NDC with more than four decades of experience in local and national governance.
He currently serves as Board Chairman of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), where he is involved in promoting investment initiatives, including the government’s 24-hour economy agenda.
He also serves on the International Advisory Board of the Africa Global Chamber of Commerce and has been consulting party stakeholders over a possible bid for the National Chairmanship.
Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuje recently stepped down as National Coordinator of the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) to focus on preparations for his chairmanship campaign. His resignation has fuelled expectations that he will formally contest the position.
Chief Sofo Awudu Azorka, the First National Vice Chairman of the party, remains a well-known grassroots mobiliser, particularly across the northern regions, while Dr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, now Policy Advisor to the Vice President and Board Chairman of COCOBOD, is seeking a return to the chairmanship after previously serving in the role.
Alhaji Said Sinare, Ghana’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia and a former Vice Chairman of the NDC, is also expected to feature in the contest.
The NDC is expected to hold its internal elections later this year, with the chairmanship race anticipated to attract significant attention as the party prepares for its future organisational and electoral agenda.
