Trump bars South Africa from 2026 G20 Summit in Miami

U.S. President Donald Trump says South Africa will not be invited to the 2026 G20 Summit in Miami, accusing its government of failing to address alleged human rights abuses.
Trump made the announcement in a lengthy social media statement in which he defended the U.S. decision not to attend this year’s G20 gathering in South Africa. He said the boycott was triggered by what he described as the South African government’s refusal “to acknowledge or address the horrific Human Rights Abuses endured by Afrikaners, and other descendants of Dutch, French, and German settlers.”
He claimed that white residents were being targeted in violent attacks, saying they are “killing white people, and randomly allowing their farms to be taken from them.”
Trump argued that the situation was being ignored by major media outlets, stating that the “Fake News Media won’t issue a word against this genocide.” He added that the industry’s alleged silence was consistent with why “all the Liars and Pretenders of the Radical Left Media are going out of business.”
Trump also criticised South Africa’s handling of the G20 closing formalities, alleging that the host country refused to transfer the G20 presidency to a representative of the U.S. Embassy. “South Africa refused to hand off the G20 Presidency to a Senior Representative from our U.S. Embassy, who attended the Closing Ceremony,” he said.
According to Trump, this action influenced his directive to bar South Africa from next year’s summit. “South Africa will NOT be receiving an invitation to the 2026 G20, which will be hosted in the Great City of Miami, Florida next year,” he wrote.
He further announced the suspension of financial support from the U.S. to South Africa, saying, “We are going to stop all payments and subsidies to them, effective immediately.” Trump added that the country had “demonstrated to the World they are not a country worthy of Membership anywhere.”
Since his return to the presidency in January, Trump has repeatedly sparred with the South African government, accusing it of ‘white genocide’.
It was for that reason that the US president instructed his administration officials not to attend the summit in South Africa.
