Two-thirds of NPP MPs support Kennedy Agyapong – Kwesi Kwarteng

The spokesperson for Kennedy Agyapong’s NPP flagbearer campaign, Kwesi Kwarteng, has stated that, although a public declaration has not yet been made, approximately two-thirds of the Minority MPs support Kennedy Agyapong.
According to him, if elections were held among the Minority MPs today, Agyapong would emerge victorious in the upcoming flagbearer race.
He made this known in an interview with Nsem360.com. When asked about the number of MPs endorsing Kennedy Agyapong, he said, “Bawumia’s camp claimed 60 MPs visited, later revised to 50. We conducted our checks and found that only 26 MPs actually attended.
“After their meeting with Dr. Bawumia, 12 of them went to meet Bryan Acheampong for lunch on the same day. On Kennedy Agyapong’s team, we are aware that two-thirds of the MPs support us, and for that reason, we are confident we will win the race,” the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson also noted that, despite the campaign’s opposition to the newly adopted top-down approach, introduced for the first time as part of the party’s rebuilding and rebranding efforts, Agyapong’s team remains optimistic about securing victory.
Kennedy Agyapong, the former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, has officially declared his intent to contest for the flagbearer position of the New Patriotic Party (NPP)
This marks Agyapong’s second attempt at vying for the NPP flagbearer position. In the 2024 primaries, he was a close contender to Dr. Bawumia, securing 37.41% of the vote against Bawumia’s 61.47%.
Kwasi Kwarteng, a legal practitioner and member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Communications Team, has been appointed as the official spokesperson for Kennedy Agyapong’s flagbearership campaign.
With extensive experience in governance, political communication, and public policy, Mr. Kwarteng is well-suited to articulate the campaign’s vision and objectives.
Mr. Kwarteng boasts an impressive academic and professional background, holding an LLB from GIMPA, a Master’s in Public Administration from KNUST, and a Master’s in International Law from the University of Ghana, among other qualifications. As a qualified Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Ghana, he brings a strong legal perspective to the campaign.
Before this appointment, Mr. Kwarteng served as spokesperson for the Ministry of Education, effectively managing media engagements and public communication. His involvement in the 2024 NPP parliamentary primaries in Asante Akyem North showcases his commitment to party politics and ability to connect with grassroots movements.
With expertise in communication, law, and public policy, Kwasi Kwarteng is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping and delivering the campaign’s message to party members and the wider public. The NPP flagbearership campaign is a crucial contest that will determine the party’s candidate for the upcoming presidential election.
