Vote for an aspirant with clean record – Kpebu to NPP delegates

Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has urged New Patriotic Party (NPP) delegates to vote for a presidential candidate with an unblemished record ahead of the January 31 primaries.

Mr. Kpebu made the remarks on TV3’s Key Points programme on Saturday while discussing the upcoming NPP presidential primaries, insisting that delegates must prioritise integrity in their choice of flagbearer.

“Common sense will tell you to go and bring someone who is unblemished. Someone that people will not get anything to talk about,” he said.

In a sharp critique of the party’s leadership record, Mr. Kpebu added, “Bawumia is as corrupt as Akufo-Addo,” a comment that sparked a tense exchange on the programme.

During the discussion, political scientist Dr. Joshua Zaato challenged Mr. Kpebu over the remarks, accusing him of unfairly impugning the former President.

The exchange became heated as Dr. Zaato condemned the comments and questioned the basis for linking former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to allegations of corruption.

The panellists were analysing the dynamics of the NPP primaries scheduled for January 31, 2026, which will determine the party’s flagbearer for the 2028 general election.

The debate comes as Global InfoAnalytics released its final poll ahead of the primaries, tipping Dr. Bawumia as the clear front-runner.

According to the research firm, the survey represents its last assessment before delegates cast their ballots.

Using a committed voter model, the poll places Dr. Bawumia at 48 percent, opening a wide lead over businessman and former Assin Central MP Kennedy Osei Agyapong, who polled 25 percent.

Dr. Bryan Acheampong trails with 6 percent, while Education Minister Yaw Adutwum records 1 percent. Kwabena Agyapong registers 0 percent, with 21 percent of respondents either undecided or unwilling to disclose their preference.

The regional breakdown shows strong support for Dr. Bawumia across multiple regions. He records 80 percent in the North East Region, 64 percent in the Northern Region, 67 percent in Upper West and 56 percent in Savannah.

He also leads in Ashanti with 49 percent, Bono with 47 percent, Bono East with 46 percent and Greater Accra with 44 percent.

Kennedy Agyapong’s strongest performance is in the Central Region, where he leads with 46 percent, ahead of Dr. Bawumia’s 30 percent.

He also shows notable support in Volta, Western and Upper East regions.

Despite pockets of undecided voters in regions such as Bono East, Oti and Volta, Global InfoAnalytics notes that the gap suggests Dr. Bawumia enters voting day as the candidate to beat, even as critics like Mr. Kpebu urge delegates to weigh character and public perception carefully.
