2024 election: Vote against economic hardships – Mahama

The 2024 flagbearer of the largest opposition National Democratic congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has described the December 7 polls elections as one between the people of Ghana and the ruling New Patriotic Party(NPP) government , citing the unprecedented levels of economic hardships and the need for accountability.
Speaking at a fundraising dinner organized by the Upper East regional NDC in Bolgatanga at the weekend, the former Ghanaian leader pledged to hold corrupt officials of the Akufo-Addo’s government accountable and retrieve looted state lands.
He criticised Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for reducing the campaign to a comedy show, emphasizing that the NDC has serious policy interventions.
Mr Mahama explained that the 24-Hour Economic Policy would be a game changer, and encouraged effective communication about it. He noted the deliberate attempt by the NPP and its assigns to distort facts about the policy.
As part of reviving the economy, the NDC leader promised financial support, cheaper power, and tax incentives for 24-hour pharmaceutical companies, similar to measures during his previous administration.
He also emphasized creating opportunities in the North to prevent migration to the South, leveraging agricultural advantages in crops like rice, sorghum, corn, soybeans, and cotton. He proposed establishing Farmer Service Centres in each district, and agro-processing factories in regions.
On the upcoming elections, he acknowledged the region’s performance in the Limited Voter Registration exercise, through his personal monitoring of daily live reports. He indicated that he would do same during the elections.
Mr Mahama used the occasion to request constituencies to present lists of volunteers for polling agents, specifying that each agent should have at least a first degree.
He said Master trainers had already been effectively trained waiting to train polling agents for all polling stations across the country to ensure vigilance and diligence in polling activities.
