Reporting process for fresh SHS students ongoing smoothly

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has expressed satisfaction with how first-year Senior High School (SHS) students are reporting to their respective schools across the country, describing the process as “largely smooth and well-coordinated.”
According to Daniel Fenyi, the Public Relations Officer of the Service, the GES set aside Saturday, October 18 to Monday, October 20 as the official window for new students to report. He said monitoring teams were deployed to schools nationwide to observe and support the process.
“We ourselves went round to do some monitoring and see how the freshers are being integrated into the new environment. Largely, the process was ongoing very smoothly in a lot of the places,” he said in an interview on Channel One Newsroom which was closely followed by this news outlet.
Mr. Fenyi noted that while a few schools experienced congestion on the first day due to the high number of students arriving, most campuses managed the situation efficiently. He added that some schools advised parents to bring their wards on Monday to reduce pressure on facilities.
He urged parents who are yet to send their children to do so before the deadline. “You wouldn’t want your child to miss the first week. If you are able to report by Monday, which is our ideal deadline, we wish that you are still able to do so. That way, your child won’t miss this important orientation exercise,” he said.
The update comes after the Ministry of Education formally welcomed about 590,000 newly placed SHS students nationwide for the 2025/2026 academic year. The Ministry described the start of the new term as a major milestone and applauded parents for their patience throughout the placement and reporting stages.
School authorities have also been encouraged to maintain order, ensure inclusiveness, and assist students in adjusting to their new academic environment.
