President John Dramani Mahama has called for stronger unity, decisive leadership, and deeper collaboration among African countries to improve healthcare delivery across the continent.
Speaking at the Africa Forward Summit, President Mahama said Africa must intensify partnerships and adopt practical measures to address persistent health challenges affecting millions of people.
According to him, the “Accra Reset” agenda seeks to strengthen cooperation among African nations, institutions and development partners to build resilient healthcare systems capable of responding effectively to emerging and long-standing health concerns.
“Stronger cooperation among governments, health institutions, international partners and the private sector will be essential in addressing challenges such as inadequate healthcare infrastructure, unequal access to services and limited resources,” he emphasized.
President Mahama stressed the need for African leaders to move beyond discussions and commitments and instead focus on implementing practical policies that deliver measurable improvements in healthcare access and quality.
He noted that while dialogue remains important, the continent’s growing health demands require urgent and coordinated action to improve infrastructure, expand access to medical services and ensure sustainable investment in the sector.
The President also underscored the importance of collaboration among governments, private sector actors, development institutions and health professionals, arguing that no single country can address Africa’s healthcare challenges in isolation.
He further urged stakeholders to embrace innovation, resource-sharing and policy coordination to help build stronger health systems capable of meeting the needs of Africa’s growing population.
President Mahama’s remarks come amid increasing calls for African countries to strengthen healthcare systems, improve emergency preparedness and reduce inequalities in access to medical care across the continent.
