Adu Asare’s kidney failure ordeal a reminder we need each other – Presby Church PRO

Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Jerome Otchere, says the kidney failure ordeal of former Adentan MP Kojo Adu-Asare should remind society of human vulnerability and compassion.
In a social media post on Sunday reacting to a recent interview by the former lawmaker, Mr. Otchere said Adu-Asare’s account of his health struggles, kidney transplant and the support he received from friends, family and political figures carried important lessons for the public.
“Former Adenta MP Adu Asare’s video in which he recounts his kidney failure issues, transplant, medical bills and the God-sent help from friends and family is touching,” he stated.
According to him, the experience should encourage people to value empathy and reduce hostility, especially in political discourse.
“It must remind us all of our vulnerabilities. It must teach us how we need each other,” he wrote.
Mr. Otchere also criticised what he described as needless insults and excessive political attacks, urging public officials and citizens alike to act with humanity and respect for the law.
“It must cause us to cut back on the often needless, pointless insults — the caustic political rhetoric and the godlessness that makes us misuse or abuse political power,” he added.
The Presbyterian Church spokesperson further stressed that every individual is susceptible to hardship regardless of status or political affiliation.
“We’re all vulnerable in one human society. Our frailties differ but all of us are fallible humans. Do what you have to do but be humane, lawful and sensible. Fear God,” he said.
Mr. Otchere also prayed for strength for the former MP and his family while commending those who offered support during the difficult period.
“God bless all kind hearts out there. God strengthen the former MP and his family. Christ be with us all,” he stated.
A few days ago, Kojo Adu-Asare disclosed in an interview on Asempa FM that he battled kidney failure for six years and underwent a kidney transplant with support from several individuals across the political divide.
Among those he publicly acknowledged were Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, Financial Intelligence Centre CEO Kwadwo Twum Boafo, former Roads and Highways Minister Kwasi Amoako-Atta, former Finance Minister Mohammed Amin Adam and Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson.
