Gov’t cannot shoulder education burdens alone – NALAG Boss

The President of the National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG), Alfred Asiedu Adjei, has urged corporate Ghana to support education, saying the government alone cannot meet every child’s educational needs.
Mr. Asiedu Adjei made the call during the launch of NALAG’s nationwide exercise book distribution initiative, where he emphasized the need for stronger collaboration between the public and private sectors to improve educational outcomes across the country.
According to him, education remains one of the most important pillars of national development, but the challenges facing the sector require contributions from all stakeholders, including businesses, non-governmental organizations and community groups.
“Government cannot do it alone. Corporate Ghana must step up and partner with us to ensure that every child has access to quality education and the tools needed to succeed,” Mr. Asiedu Adjei stated.
He noted that although the government continues to invest heavily in education through various policies and programmes, many schools still struggle with inadequate learning materials and other resource constraints.
The NALAG President stressed that investing in education should not be viewed merely as charity but as a strategic investment in Ghana’s future workforce and economic growth.
He explained that the exercise book distribution programme is designed to support pupils, particularly those in underserved communities, by providing essential learning materials that can enhance teaching and learning.
Under the initiative, more than 300,000 exercise books are expected to be distributed to schoolchildren across all 16 regions of Ghana, benefiting thousands of pupils and easing the burden on parents and schools.
Mr. Asiedu Adjei described the project as a demonstration of NALAG’s commitment to promoting inclusive and accessible education while encouraging other institutions to contribute to similar causes.
He further appealed to corporate organizations to adopt schools, sponsor educational projects and invest in digital learning programmes that can help prepare students for the demands of a rapidly changing world.
The appeal comes at a time when discussions about improving access to quality education and reducing inequalities in learning opportunities continue to dominate national development conversations.
