NHIA disburses GH¢1.2 billion in claims to healthcare providers – Anatu Seidu Bogobiri Esq.

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has disbursed GH¢1.2 billion for claims to credentialed healthcare providers across the country, covering the first half of 2026.
The Authority’s Finance and Investments Deputy Chief Executive, Anatu Anne Seidu Bogobiri (Esq.), revealed the remarkable achievement at a staff durbar held in the forecourt of the Head Office in Accra.
She described prompt claims payments as the cornerstone of the Authority’s operations, emphasizing that it will be sustained to accelerate Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
“Claims payment remains the crescendo of all our activities. Operations, we can huff and puff, but if you don’t pay claims, NHIA, we’ve not yet done anything,” she said.
Mrs. Bogobiri noted that the significant progress made in claims payments reflected Executive Management’s commitment, under the leadership of the Chief Executive, Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe, to strengthen provider confidence and ensure uninterrupted healthcare services to the NHIS active members.
She highlighted several achievements recorded by the Finance and Investment Directorate since the beginning of the year, including the successful rollout of a cashless revenue collection system, implementation of a revised Financial Management Manual, and capacity-building programmes to improve financial management across the Authority.
The Deputy Chief Executive also announced that the NHIA secured approval for its 2026 allocation formula on April 10, paving the way for the smooth implementation of key programmes and infrastructure projects, including the Authority’s new office building and car park.
On financial reporting, Mrs. Bogobiri said the Directorate had cleared outstanding financial statement backlogs inherited by the current administration and submitted the Authority’s 2025 financial statements by the statutory deadline of February 28, 2026.
She added that the NHIA was ranked sixth among 76 state institutions that submitted their audited 2025 financial statements on time, according to a publication by the Audit Service, while first-quarter financial statements had also been submitted and second-quarter statements prepared for submission.
Mrs. Bogobiri further assured staff that Management remains committed to their welfare, citing the prompt payment of salaries and per diems as evidence of that commitment.
Going forward, she urged staff to retire all outstanding imprest, warning that any unretired accountable imprest would be recovered from salaries beginning July 10, 2026, in line with the Governing Board and Executive Management’s directive.
She also announced that revised payment workflow approval limits would soon be communicated to staff and disclosed that the integration of the Authority’s financial management system with the Ghana Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS) is expected to be completed by the end of the year to enhance financial oversight, accountability and operational efficiency across the NHIA.
