Haruna Iddrisu assures TUTAG members of Book and Research Allowance payment by Sept.

The government has begun processing the 2025/2026 Book and Research Allowance for thousands of lecturers of technical universities, with data for about 8,000 members of the Technical University Teachers’ Association of Ghana (TUTAG) already captured.

Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu disclosed this on Wednesday, September 16, saying the payments were expected to be completed by the end of September.

According to Mr. Iddrisu, the Ministry of Education had directed the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) to compile and submit the necessary information to the Controller and Accountant-General for processing.

“We directed GTEC to provide data to the Controller and Accountant-General and I am happy to note that some of you will receive your Book and Research Allowance in your September salary. Those of you who have had your data captured will receive it.”

He said he personally engaged the Controller and Accountant-General on Tuesday to establish the progress made in entering the beneficiaries’ information.

“We are committed to honouring all and as of the close of work yesterday [Tuesday, September 15], I spoke to the Controller and Accountant-General and he said he has entered data for up to 8,000 persons.”

The development follows growing pressure from TUTAG over the delayed allowance, with the association threatening to withdraw its services through industrial action if the payment issue remained unresolved.

The Book and Research Allowance is meant to assist academic staff with costs related to research and academic resources.
