Mahama cuts sod for US$1.3bn Sentuo Airport Garden City development project

The construction of the US$1.3 billion Sentuo Airport Garden City Project has officially begun following a sod-cutting ceremony led by President John Dramani Mahama.

The development is planned for the airport enclave in Accra and will combine residential, hospitality, commercial, healthcare and recreational facilities.

It is expected to provide about 582 premium apartments, a hotel, a 2,500-capacity conference facility, healthcare services, a shopping mall, landscaped gardens and 503 parking bays.

At the ceremony on September 15, President Mahama said the project represented an important private-sector contribution to the development taking place around the airport.

He said investments of this nature could generate opportunities for workers and businesses across several sectors of the economy.

“The opportunity reaches across our economy. Construction can create work for engineers, artisans and technicians. Hospitality can support chefs, housekeepers, suppliers and transport operators. Conferences can bring business to event organisers, creative professionals, restaurants and local enterprises. These are the connections that must guide how we plan and deliver investment,” the president said.

Mahama also urged public institutions to work with the developers to address legitimate challenges during the implementation of the project while protecting the public interest.

He said the development complemented recent government investment in the airport enclave, including a seven-storey complex being developed by the Ghana Airports Company Limited.

The President further encouraged Ghanaians in the diaspora and international investors to explore opportunities in Ghana’s property and tourism sectors.

“Our message to the world is clear: Ghana is open for investment. Ghana is ready for partnership. Ghana is building for the future,” he said.
