Builsa South roads: Dr. Apaak moves to ease transport challenges for farmers, traders

Builsa South Member of Parliament (MP), Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, says poor road conditions in parts of the constituency are hampering the movement of farm produce, traders and residents, prompting him to announce an intervention to fix some of the worst-affected roads.

Dr. Apaak has authorised the release of GH¢370,000 from his share of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) to support the fixing, reshaping and maintenance of selected roads across the constituency.

The roads link several communities and farming areas, making them important for transporting agricultural produce to markets and facilitating the movement of people and goods.

The intervention covers the Doninga–Kanjarga, Doninga–Siniensi, Uwasi–Fumbisi, Kanjarga–Fumbisi and Wiesi–Fumbisi roads, as well as the Nyambisa Road and Bridge.

The Kanjarga–Fumbisi Road has received the largest allocation of GH¢100,000, while GH¢50,000 each has been assigned to the Doninga–Kanjarga, Doninga–Siniensi and Wiesi–Fumbisi roads.

A further GH¢40,000 has been allocated to the Uwasi–Fumbisi Road, with GH¢30,000 set aside for the Nyambisa Road and Bridge.

The allocation also includes an earlier GH¢50,000 released by Dr. Apaak for emergency works on sections of the Uwasi–Fumbisi and Zamsa–Fumbisi roads.

For residents whose livelihoods depend on farming and trading, the condition of the roads can affect the cost and ease of transporting produce and goods, particularly when badly damaged sections become difficult to navigate.
Dr. Apaak said his decision followed what he observed during a recent visit to the constituency and concerns raised by residents.

“During my visit to the constituency, I saw firsthand the difficulties residents, farmers, and traders go through on these roads, and I listened carefully to their concerns. Good roads are essential for development. They connect our people to opportunities, markets, schools, and healthcare facilities.”

He said the intervention was intended to address some immediate challenges while efforts continue to secure larger road projects from central government agencies.

“While major road projects remain the responsibility of central government agencies, I believe it is important to utilize available resources to address some of the immediate challenges facing our communities.”

Builsa South is predominantly an agrarian district, making road connectivity important to the movement of farm produce and access to markets and other essential services.

The MP’s office said the road works are expected to reduce transportation difficulties and costs, improve mobility and enhance access to schools and healthcare facilities.

Dr. Apaak is also engaging the Ministry of Roads and Highways, Ghana Highway Authority and Department of Feeder Roads to secure broader and more sustainable road infrastructure projects for the constituency.

His office said he is pushing for faster progress on the Builsa South section of the Chuchuliga–Sandema–Wiaga–Fumbisi–Wiesi road and is encouraging the Roads and Highways Minister, Governs Agbodza to rehabilitate feeder roads across the constituency.

The Doninga–Sandema Road, which the MP’s office described as being in a terrible state, is also expected to receive attention soon, with a contractor expected to be on site.

The MP’s office said the interventions form part of broader efforts to improve connectivity and support the socio-economic development of communities across Builsa South.
