Doninga–Sandema road: Dr. Apaak pushes for work to begin amid deplorable state

Member of Parliament (MP) for Builsa South, Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, is pushing for urgent action on the Doninga–Sandema Road, which his office says is in a terrible state.

According to the MP’s office, a contractor is expected to be on site soon to begin work on the road as efforts continue to address the deteriorating road network in the constituency.

The development forms part of Dr. Apaak’s broader efforts to secure both immediate and long-term solutions to road infrastructure challenges confronting communities across Builsa South.

The MP is also pushing for the contractor working on the Builsa South section of the Chuchuliga–Sandema–Wiaga–Fumbisi–Wiesi road to accelerate construction.

His office said Dr. Apaak is actively engaging the Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Agbodza to rehabilitate feeder roads across Builsa South, while also working with relevant agencies, including the Ghana Highway Authority and the Department of Feeder Roads.

The push comes amid concerns from residents over the poor condition of several roads linking communities in the constituency.

As part of efforts to address some of the immediate challenges, Dr. Apaak has authorised the release of GH¢370,000 from his share of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) for repairs, reshaping and maintenance of selected roads.

The allocation includes GH¢50,000 for the Doninga–Kanjarga Road and GH¢50,000 for the Doninga–Siniensi Road.
The Kanjarga–Fumbisi Road has been allocated GH¢100,000, while GH¢40,000 will support works on the Uwasi–Fumbisi Road.

Another GH¢50,000 has been earmarked for the Wiesi–Fumbisi Road, with GH¢30,000 allocated for the Nyambisa Road and Bridge.

An earlier GH¢50,000 release for emergency works on sections of the Uwasi–Fumbisi and Zamsa–Fumbisi roads brings the total intervention to GH¢370,000.

Dr. Apaak said the immediate interventions were necessary to help address pressing challenges faced by residents while efforts continue to secure larger government-funded projects.

“During my visit to the constituency, I saw firsthand the difficulties residents, farmers, and traders go through on these roads, and I listened carefully to their concerns. Good roads are essential for development. They connect our people to opportunities, markets, schools, and healthcare facilities.”

He added that while major road projects fall under central government agencies, available resources could still be used to address urgent needs in affected communities.

“While major road projects remain the responsibility of central government agencies, I believe it is important to utilize available resources to address some of the immediate challenges facing our communities.”

The MP’s office said Dr. Apaak would continue engaging the relevant government agencies to secure comprehensive and sustainable road infrastructure for Builsa South.

It said the broader objective was to improve mobility, reduce transportation difficulties and costs, facilitate access to markets and improve residents’ access to essential services.

The office also appealed to contractors working on road projects in the constituency to speed up construction and complete ongoing works to ease the difficulties faced by residents.
