Kudus makes instant impact on Premier League return as Spurs fall to Villa

‎Mohammed Kudus made an immediate impact on his return to Premier League action, providing his first assist of the 2026/27 campaign as Tottenham Hotspur suffered a 3-2 defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday.

‎The Ghanaian midfielder was introduced at half-time by Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi, with Spurs trailing and still searching for their first Premier League goal of the season.
‎Kudus brought renewed energy and creativity to the Tottenham attack and quickly became involved in the team’s efforts to mount a comeback.

‎His decisive moment came in the 86th minute when he set up Conor Gallagher for Tottenham’s opening league goal of the campaign. Kudus received the ball before delivering the pass that allowed Gallagher to find the back of the net and give Spurs hope of completing a dramatic recovery.

‎The former Ajax star had earlier thought he had helped Tottenham find the net, but the effort was ruled out for offside.

‎For Kudus, the performance provides another positive step in his return to regular competitive football. The 26-year-old had started Tottenham’s Carabao Cup defeat to Liverpool days earlier as he continues to rebuild his match fitness.

‎His return is also significant for Ghana, with Kudus back in the Black Stars squad after missing the 2026 FIFA World Cup due to an injury that kept him out for seven months.

‎He is expected to be part of Ghana’s upcoming international assignments, with the Black Stars scheduled to face Côte d’Ivoire in Bouaké on September 24, The Gambia in Accra on September 29, and Morocco in an international friendly on October 4.

‎With his first Premier League assist of the season already secured, Kudus will be hoping to build on the performance and regain his best form for both Tottenham and Ghana.
