Korle Bu: Work begins on Mahama’s 400-bed Mother and Child Block – Kwakye Ofosu

The Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has announced that work has begun on a 400-bed Mother and Child Block at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

In a social media post, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu said the project forms part of President John Dramani Mahama’s investment in major health infrastructure.

“President Mahama is back with investments in major, world-class health infrastructure,” he wrote.

He said land preparation had begun for the construction and equipping of the facility, which will replace the hospital’s dilapidated Maternity Unit.

“Land preparation has begun for the construction and equipping of a modern 400-bed Mother and Child Block at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital to replace the delapidated Maternity Unit,” he stated.

The new block is expected to provide specialised maternal and child healthcare services, including Obstetrics and Gynaecology Wards, Labour and Delivery Suites, Operating Theatres, a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), High Dependency Unit (HDU) and Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

It will also include an IVF and Assisted Reproductive Technology Centre, antenatal and postnatal clinics, fertility and reproductive health clinics, breastfeeding and family planning units, and an Emergency Obstetric Care Unit.

Other planned facilities include diagnostic imaging, laboratory and blood bank services, a pharmacy, physiotherapy and rehabilitation units, as well as teaching, research and conference facilities.
