Mahama to support the Zongos and deprived urban settlements

Supporting Zongos and deprived urban settlements in Ghana is crucial for several reasons:
Inclusivity and social justice: Providing support to Zongos and deprived urban settlements ensures that all citizens, regardless of their socio-economic background, have access to basic services and opportunities for development. This promotes inclusivity and social justice within the society.
Poverty reduction: Zongos and deprived urban settlements are often characterised by high levels of poverty and limited access to essential services such as healthcare, education, and clean water. By investing in these communities, the government can help lift residents out of poverty and improve their quality of life.
Sustainable development: Supporting Zongos and deprived urban settlements is essential for achieving sustainable development goals. By addressing the needs of these communities, the government can promote economic growth, social cohesion, and environmental sustainability.
Public health: Zongos and deprived urban settlements are often overcrowded and lack proper sanitation facilities, making residents vulnerable to health risks such as infectious diseases. By investing in infrastructure and healthcare services in these areas, the government can improve public health outcomes and reduce the burden of disease.
Social cohesion: Neglecting Zongos and deprived urban settlements can lead to social unrest and conflict. By providing support to these communities, the government can promote social cohesion and unity among citizens, ultimately contributing to peace and stability in the country.
It is for these reasons that the 2024 flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress, former President John Dramani Mahama has promised to provide regular funding through the District Assembly Common Fund for the development of the Zongos and deprived urban settlements to bridge the irregularity gap if elected the next president of the Republic of Ghana.
Mahama’s commitment to this intervention is a positive step towards addressing the socio-economic challenges faced by these communities. By bridging the funding gap, Mahama aims to improve infrastructure, access to basic services, and overall quality of life for residents in these areas.
This initiative also demonstrates Mahama’s recognition of the importance of inclusive development and his commitment to addressing the needs of marginalised communities.
By prioritising the development of Zongos and deprived urban settlements, Mahama is signaling his intention to create a more equitable and inclusive society where all citizens have access to opportunities for growth and prosperity.
If elected as president of Ghana, Mahama’s focus on providing regular funding for the development of Zongos and deprived urban settlements will be a crucial step towards reducing inequality and promoting social cohesion. This initiative has the potential to uplift communities that have been historically marginalised and neglected, ultimately contributing to the overall development and prosperity of our dear nation.
