NDC tipped to win Akwatia by-election with 53% by Global InfoAnalytics

A new survey by Global InfoAnalytics has tipped NDC to win Akwatia by-election with 53%. The results of the survey has placed the NDC candidate Bernard Baidoo ahead of the NPP’s Solomon K. Asumadu in the upcoming Akwatia by-election.
A fresh Global InfoAnalytics poll has projected a narrow victory for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Bernard Baidoo, over his New Patriotic Party (NPP) rival, Solomon K. Asumadu, in the Akwatia by-election scheduled for Tuesday, September 2, 2025.
According to the survey, conducted between August 27 and 28 with a sample size of 2,050 voters, Baidoo secured 53 percent of voter support compared to 47 percent for Asumadu. The poll suggests that Baidoo’s lead is being driven largely by young voters, particularly students in senior high schools and tertiary institutions, as well as residents who are prioritising development issues.
The by-election was necessitated by the death of the late NPP Member of Parliament, Ernest Kumi, on July 7, creating a parliamentary vacancy in the Akwatia constituency. Given Akwatia’s reputation as a swing seat, the race is being closely watched as a test of political momentum for both the ruling NPP and the opposition NDC ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Global InfoAnalytics noted that key concerns such as unemployment, economic hardship, and poor access to social amenities have heavily influenced voter preferences. These issues, the polling agency said, have given Baidoo an edge among undecided voters and development-focused constituents.
In its statement accompanying the release of the poll, Global InfoAnalytics said: “NDC’s Baidoo overtakes NPP’s Asumadu three days before the crucial polls in Akwatia. Baidoo’s lead is propelled by voters who want development and by SHS and tertiary students who preferred him by a larger margin.”
The research organisation further explained that even under its committed model, which reflects the minimum expected votes for each candidate, Baidoo maintained a 53 percent lead against Asumadu’s 47 percent. “Our polls and predictions are credible, independent and reliable. Ghanaians believe in us,” the statement added.
Despite Baidoo’s projected lead, Global InfoAnalytics cautioned that undecided voters could still play a decisive role, either solidifying Baidoo’s advantage or narrowing the gap in favour of Asumadu.

With just days to the by-election, the survey underscores the high stakes for both parties in Akwatia. For the NDC, a win would boost confidence and reinforce its grassroots mobilisation efforts. For the NPP, however, retaining the seat would be crucial to demonstrating its resilience following the loss of its MP and to maintaining momentum heading into the next general elections.
