Kofi Bentil endorses Bawumia as NPP’s best bet for 2028 elections

The IMANI Africa Vice President explained that despite the apathy Bawumia suffered in the 2024 general elections, his ability to secure 41 percent of the vote proves that he is still the NPP’s best bet to lead the party into 2028.
Mr. Bentil stressed that within the party’s current lineup of leaders, none matches the experience, resilience, and national appeal of Dr. Bawumia, making him the NPP’s strongest and best bet for victory in 2028.
“It’s actually interesting to realize that despite the deep anger and disaffection from all sides, including NPP members not voting, DMB got 41%. I have no doubt he will be the strongest candidate in the next election,” Mr. Bentil wrote on Facebook.
His endorsement comes as Dr. Bawumia himself formally declared his intention to seek the party’s mandate once again. Speaking on Thursday, August 28, the former Vice President said he feels an “overwhelming sense of duty to give back” and called on party members to unite behind him for victory in 2028.
“All my life, this country and this party have given me so much,” Dr. Bawumia stated. “That is why I didn’t hesitate to lay down my job at the Bank of Ghana in 2008 to assist the NPP’s quest for power. That is why I left my role at the African Development Bank in 2012. That is why I did not hesitate to testify in the Supreme Court election petition in 2013. And that is why I conceded in 2024 to preserve the nation’s peace.”
Dr. Bawumia pledged to put everything on the line for the NPP once more, saying: “You can be sure that with Mahamudu Bawumia as flagbearer, I shall not hesitate to put my all on the line, for the NPP and for Ghana as I have done before.”
He urged party members to join his bid to rebuild the NPP and reposition it for power in 2028. “Let us win, and let us win together. Let us win with Bawumia,” he told supporters.
Political watchers say Kofi Bentil’s strong endorsement has injected new momentum into Bawumia’s comeback bid, reinforcing the narrative that the former Vice President is the NPP’s best bet for the 2028 elections.
