A-Plus petitions Bagbin to remove Osei Asare as PAC Chair
Member of Parliament (MP) for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, known as A-Plus, has petitioned Speaker Alban Bagbin to remove Abena Osei Asare as Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee.
In his letter published on 3rd November, 2025, A-Plus said Osei Asare’s continued leadership of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) compromises Parliament’s integrity and undermines public confidence in its oversight work.
He argued that her previous role as Deputy Finance Minister during a period marked by “reckless borrowing and fiscal indiscipline” makes her unfit to lead a committee demanding accountability from others.
“The Public Accounts Committee remains one of Parliament’s most critical instruments for ensuring transparency and accountability,” A-Plus wrote. “It is deeply concerning that Hon. Abena Osei Asare, who served under the Ministry of Finance during such a troubled period, now presides over it.”
He pointed to several controversial contracts, including the Strategic Mobilization Limited (SML) deal, the ECG-Beijing Jao Loss Reduction agreement, and the Service Ghana Auto Limited ambulance procurement, all under investigation by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
According to A-Plus, Osei Asare’s defence of Ghana Revenue Authority Commissioner-General Rev. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah when he refused to disclose his age also raises questions about her commitment to transparency.
“It is morally indefensible for her to preside over a committee that demands accountability on issues that occurred under her direct watch,” the petition said.
He insisted that her position creates a conflict of interest and erodes public confidence in Parliament’s oversight authority.
“Such a situation brings the image of Parliament into disrepute,” he added.
A-Plus urged Speaker Bagbin to act swiftly to safeguard the impartiality and moral standing of the Public Accounts Committee.
The petition follows a statement Mr. Obeng published on Sunday morning criticizing his colleague, Mrs. Asare over her handling of the PAC hearings.
Neither Osei Asare nor the Speaker’s office has yet to publicly responded to the petition.
