GFA to honour Asamoah Gyan with testimonial match

The Ghana Football Association will host a testimonial match to celebrate the remarkable career and lasting impact of former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan on Ghanaian football.
According to the GFA, arrangements are underway in collaboration with Gyan to finalise the date, venue, and participating teams for the historic event.
The testimonial is expected to draw football icons, fans, and dignitaries to honour the country’s most decorated striker.
Gyan, affectionately known as Baby Jet, remains Ghana’s all-time top scorer with 51 goals in 109 international appearances.
He also holds the record as Africa’s highest scorer in FIFA World Cup history, netting six goals across the 2006, 2010, and 2014 tournaments.
His heroics in South Africa 2010, where Ghana reached the World Cup quarterfinals, cemented his reputation as one of Africa’s most influential forwards.
Beyond the national team, Gyan’s club career took him across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. He began at Liberty Professionals before moving to Udinese and later playing for Modena, Rennes, and Sunderland.
He went on to star for Al Ain and Al Ahli in the UAE, Shanghai SIPG in China, and Kayserispor in Turkey before returning home to feature for Legon Cities FC.
Off the pitch, Gyan has also contributed to sports development through business ventures and youth empowerment initiatives.
The testimonial would serve as a fitting tribute to a player whose influence transcended football.
Fans across the country took to social media to express excitement about the upcoming event, which will celebrate nearly two decades of brilliance from one of Africa’s most iconic players.
“Way to go,” one X user said.
“Finally giving his flowers,” agreed another.
The GFA is expected to communicate the venue and when the match will take place shortly.
