Abena Osei Asare’s PAC leadership a national disgrace – A-Plus

Member of Parliament (MP) for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, known as A-Plus, has described the leadership of Abena Osei Asare as Chair of Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) as a “national disgrace.”
In a Sunday morning post on Facebook, the Gomoa Central MP said Osei Asare, who previously served as Deputy Finance Minister under Ken Ofori-Atta, lacked both the “credibility and moral authority” to question government appointees on issues of accountability.
“It lacks both credibility and moral authority for Abena Osei Asare to question anyone in this country. It doesn’t take law to realize this. It takes the fear of God,” A-Plus stated.
He argued that Osei Asare’s role in the previous administration disqualified her from leading a body responsible for financial oversight.
“How can any serious nation permit this individual to question appointees of President John Dramani Mahama, who have been in office for less than a year, when she and her superior spent nearly a decade deliberately driving this country toward chaos?” he wrote.
According to him, the former deputy minister’s past association with controversial contracts under the previous government made her leadership of the PAC deeply ironic.
He cited the Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML) deal between the Ghana Revenue Authority and SML, the ECG–Beijing Jao Loss Reduction contract, and the Health Ministry’s ambulance procurement with Service Ghana Auto Limited as examples of scandals now under investigation.
“These are not mere whispers; these are active investigations into the very administration where Abena Osei Asare played a significant role,” A-Plus added.
He recalled Osei Asare’s public defense of the former Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority, Rev. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah, who refused to reveal his age, describing it as “a moment that exposed her disregard for transparency.”
Her conduct at parliamentary hearings, he claimed, “is not bravery; it is hypocrisy cloaked in authority,” insisting that her position “undermines the struggles of every Ghanaian” affected by poor governance.
“Her sitting in Parliament questioning appointees about accountability transcends irony, it is a national disgrace,” A-Plus declared.
Mrs. Abena Osei Asare has emerged as a key figure for the New Patriotic Party in Parliament since the party moved into opposition in January.
As Chair of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), her firm and probing style of questioning public officials has drawn significant public attention, sparking widespread discussion among citizens and internet users.
While some have commended her assertiveness, others have criticized her approach and motives in the committee’s oversight work.
