Abena Osei Asare lacks moral authority to question others – A-Plus

Member of Parliament (MP) for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, has accused the Chair of Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Abena Osei Asare, of lacking the moral authority to question public officials.
In a strongly worded statement shared on Sunday morning, the lawmaker said it was “shocking” that a former deputy to Ken Ofori-Atta was leading a committee responsible for ensuring accountability in public office.
“It lacks both credibility and moral authority for Abena Osei Asare to question anyone in this country. It doesn’t take law to realize this. It takes the fear of God,” he wrote on Facebook
A-Plus argued that Osei Asare, who served as Deputy Finance Minister under the previous administration, was part of a government that “drove the country toward chaos” and left behind a trail of corruption scandals.
“How can any serious nation permit this individual to question appointees of President John Dramani Mahama, who have been in office for less than a year, when she and her superior spent nearly a decade deliberately driving this country toward chaos?” he asked.
He cited several contentious contracts signed during her time in office, including the Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML) deal between the Ghana Revenue Authority and SML, as well as the ECG–Beijing Jao Loss Reduction contract and the Health Ministry’s ambulance deal with Service Ghana Auto Limited.
“These are not mere whispers; these are active investigations into the very administration where Abena Osei Asare played a significant role,” A-Plus stated, questioning the ethical basis of her current role.
He further mocked her past defense of then GRA Commissioner-General Rev. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah, saying, “This same woman was on live television passionately defending a man who refused to disclose his age.”
According to him, her conduct at committee hearings “is not bravery; it is hypocrisy cloaked in authority.”
A-Plus called for a moral reflection saying: “In our country today, speaking the truth doesn’t require bravery. We simply need to fear God, and everything will align.”
Mrs. Abena Osei Asare has been a major force for the New Patriotic Party in Parliament since January when the party moved to opposition.
As chair of the PAC of Parliament, her strong line of questioning of public officials has generated a lot of interest and chatter among the public especially internet users who have either criticized or commended her for her role on the oversight committee.
