German President in Ghana for three-day state visit

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier
German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier arrived in Accra on Sunday evening to begin a three-day state visit to Ghana, from November 2 to 4, 2025.
He was received at the Kotoka International Airport by Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and the German Ambassador to Ghana.
On Monday, November 3, President Steinmeier will be accorded a full military Guard of Honour at the forecourt of the Jubilee House before holding a private meeting with President John Dramani Mahama. The two leaders are expected to discuss trade, investment, technology, and cooperation in development.
A state luncheon will follow at the Presidential Banquet Hall, after which the German President will visit the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park to lay a wreath at the tomb of Ghana’s first president.
On Tuesday, November 4, President Steinmeier will continue his engagements in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region. His itinerary includes a sod-cutting ceremony at the Kumasi Technical Institute, interactions with staff and alumni of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), and a tour of the Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research. He will also pay a courtesy call on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the Manhyia Palace.
The visit aims to strengthen long-standing ties between Ghana and Germany, with emphasis on cooperation in education, innovation, and commerce.
The engagements could help attract new German investments, particularly in Ghana’s manufacturing and technology sectors.
President Steinmeier is scheduled to leave Ghana on Tuesday evening.
