Asankrangwa robbery: Five suspects arrested with GHS198k cash, guns

Police in the Western Central Region have arrested five suspects in connection with an armed robbery at a Chinese heavy-duty machinery company at Malta, Asankrangwa.
The incident occurred on 12th March 2026 and involved the theft of cash and the temporary hostage-taking of company workers.
According to the police statement, the suspects, armed with “pump-action guns, a pistol, and machetes, held workers of the company hostage and robbed them of cash in the sum of GHS 200,000.”
During the attack, three Chinese nationals were handcuffed and locked in a room while the assailants fled the scene in a black Toyota Voxy vehicle with registration number GS 576-25.
Police responded swiftly after receiving information about the robbery. A patrol team from the Asankrangwa Police was dispatched to the scene, but the suspects had already escaped.
The stolen vehicle was later spotted on the Asankrangwa-Sefwi Bekwai road and intercepted at the Sumpre checkpoint.
The occupants attempted to flee, but were pursued and apprehended by the police with support from the Asankrangwa patrol team.
Four suspects were arrested immediately: Issahaku Ibrahim, aged 42; Fatau Ali, aged 25; Yahaya Mumuni, aged 26; and Emmanuel Antwi, aged 22. The following day, a fifth suspect, Rashid Abdul, aged 22, was arrested from his hideout, bringing the total number of suspects in custody to five.
Police confirmed that two other suspects remain at large, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend them.
A search of the suspects’ vehicle led to the recovery of several exhibits, including “two pump-action guns, fourteen AA cartridges, one Bruni Mod 84 Cal 9 PAK pistol with eight rounds of ammunition, one machete, three pairs of handcuffs, two CCTV camera decoders, and cash in the sum of GHS198,200.00,” as detailed in the statement.
The Western Central Region Police have reiterated their commitment to bringing all suspects to justice and urged members of the public to provide any information that could aid investigations.
Authorities also emphasized the importance of vigilance and collaboration with law enforcement to prevent future incidents.
The case remains under active investigation as police continue to track down the remaining suspects and ensure the safety of the community.
