Driver’s mate jailed six months for stealing from Ministry of Finance

The convict admitted to stealing laptops, a fridge, and other items from the Ministry.
A driver’s mate, Isaac Peprah, has been sentenced to six months in prison by the Adabraka District Court for stealing laptops, a fridge, and other valuables from the Ministry of Finance. The case, which involved items including four laptops and a Bluetooth speaker, concluded with a custodial sentence after the convict pleaded guilty.
According to court proceedings, Peprah, also known as Happiness, unlawfully entered the Ministry of Finance Treasury Block and made away with the stolen property. The six-month jail term followed his admission of guilt in the theft of laptops, a fridge, and other devices from the Ministry.
Presiding judge Mrs. Abena Owusu Omenyo convicted Peprah on his own plea for stealing, while two other charges of unlawful entry and causing damage were struck out. Prosecutors told the court that the 26-year-old convict had climbed the Ministry’s fence wall at dawn on August 17, 2025, and accessed two offices where he carried out the theft.
He took two Dell laptops, a Lenovo laptop, chargers, a West Pool table-top fridge, and a Bluetooth speaker. Peprah temporarily hid the fridge at a corner of the Ministry’s car park before attempting to escape.
A witness jogging nearby confronted him, prompting the convict to abandon the bag of laptops and flee. A Customs officer on duty, Emmanuel Teye, assisted in the chase, and Peprah was eventually arrested in front of the Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment offices.
Police investigations led to the recovery of the hidden fridge, and the laptops were returned to the Ministry of Finance staff in court. Chief Inspector Apeweh Achana led the prosecution, while the complainant, Mahmud Ahmed, serves as Acting Head of Security at the Ministry.
Peprah, a resident of Kokomba in Agbogbloshie, remains in custody to serve his six-month jail term.
