EOCO grants Shatta Wale GH₵10m bail over Lamborghini alleged fraud probe

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has granted bail to dancehall musician Charles Nii Armah Mensah, widely known as Shatta Wale, in connection with an ongoing international alleged fraud investigation.
In a statement released on Thursday, August 21, EOCO confirmed that the artiste was granted bail to the tune of GH₵10 million with two sureties to be justified. This followed several hours of questioning regarding a Lamborghini Urus, which US authorities say was acquired with proceeds of a $4 million fraud scheme. The principal suspect in that case, Ghanaian national Nana Kwabena Amuah, is currently serving a sentence in the United States.
According to the statement, Shatta Wale honoured an invitation to EOCO on August 20 but arrived late for the scheduled session. Interrogation began after his lawyer appeared at 5 pm and continued until around 9 pm, when bail was granted. Officers wrapped up administrative procedures by 11 pm.
The investigations were triggered by a formal request from the FBI and the US Department of Justice, asking EOCO to trace the luxury vehicle and identify any possible collaborators in Ghana. The Lamborghini was seized in May after being traced to Shatta Wale’s possession. On August 15, a US District Court in Kentucky authorised the American government to take custody of the car as restitution for the fraud.
EOCO disclosed that while the musician had publicly claimed to have purchased the vehicle for $150,000, he has so far been unable to substantiate the claim. He reportedly told investigators that he acquired it informally “from the street” through a person possibly called “ZAK” but could not provide further details or contact information.
The only document he produced was a customs declaration form bearing the name of Nana Kwabena Amuah, directly tying the transaction to the convicted fraudster.
EOCO indicated that Shatta Wale will remain on bail pending the fulfilment and verification of his sureties, after which he will be released from custody.
