Four suspects arrested with 315 parcels of Indian hemp in Tema

The Tema Community 1 District Police have arrested four suspects after intercepting 315 compressed parcels of substances suspected to be Indian hemp. The operation, carried out on Monday, September 8, 2025, followed a police tip-off at the Community 1 Industrial Area.
Police confirmed that the suspects arrested with the parcels of Indian hemp are Nura Sali, 44, Pius Chukwuma, 49, Mustapha Umar, 18, and Abdulai Amayau, 23. They were apprehended during an operation that also saw a truck, with registration number GN 7291-16, impounded.
According to the Tema Regional Police Command, the 315 parcels of the suspected Indian hemp had been concealed inside the tyres of the vehicle. Officers uncovered the packages during the search, and the four men were immediately taken into custody. They are currently assisting investigators as the police build their case.
A statement signed by ASP Dede Dzakpasu, Head of Public Affairs for the Tema Regional Police Command, praised the professionalism of the arresting officers. “The Regional Police Command commends the arresting officers for their professionalism and reaffirms its commitment to combating drug-related offences in order to safeguard our communities,” the release said.
The police also used the opportunity to appeal to the public for cooperation in the fight against narcotics. “The Command urges the public to promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station for swift action,” the statement added.
Drug-related offences have become a major concern for law enforcement, with the Tema region often identified as a hotspot due to its industrial and transport corridors. The interception of the truck and recovery of 315 parcels of Indian hemp points to the scale of the trade and the challenges facing security agencies.
The Ghana Police Service has assured the public that investigations will be thorough and that the suspects will be arraigned before court once initial processes are completed. The Command says it remains resolute in its efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks and protect communities from the dangers associated with narcotics.
