GES denies allegations of ‘secret’ teacher recruitment

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has dismissed circulating claims that it is engaging in secret recruitment of teachers and charging individuals up to GHS25,000 for appointments.
The Service stressed that such reports are false and urged the public to report any suspicious solicitations to the security agencies.
In a statement issued on Friday, December 12, Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations for GES, said the Service had noted the spread of a viral video and certain media reports alleging that individuals were being asked to pay for teaching positions through undisclosed recruitment exercises.
GES clarified that the confusion may have arisen due to the continuation of onboarding for 2024 applicants whose financial clearance had expired. In October 2025, the Service extended financial clearance to allow these candidates to complete the recruitment process. This resulted in the issuance of new, genuine appointment letters in place of previously circulated fake letters.
“The new appointment letters were provided at no cost to applicants and reflect the official process,” the statement said, explaining that previous misunderstandings regarding fake letters may have fueled the misleading claims.
The Service emphasized that its recruitment procedures have not changed and remain transparent. GES assured the public that any official teacher recruitment will be formally announced, and all qualified applicants will be invited to apply without any requirement for payment.
GES further appealed to anyone who has been approached with a request for money in connection with teacher appointments, or who possesses evidence of such activity, to report the matter immediately to the authorities.
“The Ghana Education Service is committed to upholding a fair, open, and transparent recruitment system,” the statement concluded, reiterating that all legitimate appointments are issued free of charge and in accordance with established procedures.
