Ghana Climate Centre of Excellence pays courtesy call on Bagbin

The Ghana Climate Centre of Excellence, led by its founder and CEO, Chauncia Wilis-Johnson, has paid a courtesy call on the Right Honourable Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin.
The delegation briefed the Speaker on several key initiatives undertaken by the organisation, with a special focus on a transformative shea and neem project aimed at empowering rural women and promoting climate resilience.
The project, which integrates sustainable shea harvesting practices with carbon sequestration efforts, is designed to enhance livelihoods while protecting Ghana’s fragile savannah ecosystems.
During the meeting, the Rt Hon Speaker commended the Centre for its innovative approach to climate action and its direct impact on grassroots communities. He specifically highlighted the shea project as a model for inclusive development, noting that it aligns perfectly with Parliament’s commitment to climate-smart agriculture and gender empowerment.
“The shea trade is not just an economic activity; it is a lifeline for many women in northern Ghana. By linking it to climate resilience, you are creating a sustainable future for our mothers, sisters, and daughters,” Mr. Bagbin remarked.
The Speaker further pledged Parliament’s support for the scaling up of the shea initiative, urging the Centre to engage with the relevant parliamentary committees to explore policy backing and potential funding avenues.
He called on other civil society organisations to emulate the Ghana Climate Centre of Excellence’s community-centered approach. The delegation expressed gratitude for the Speaker’s warm reception and reaffirmed its commitment to working with government and stakeholders to build a climate-resilient Ghana.
