Ghana to host ADEA Triennale on education reform, ending learning poverty

Ghana will host Africa’s biggest education policy conference, the 2025 ADEA Triennale, aimed at tackling learning poverty and strengthening educational resilience across the continent.
The event, set for October 29–31 at Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra, will gather over 350 participants, including more than 30 Ministers of Education, policy experts, and global development partners.
Education Minister Alhaji Haruna Iddrisu described the Triennale as “a defining moment for Africa’s education systems to reimagine the future of learning through innovation, technology, and collaboration.”
He said Ghana’s hosting of the event underscored its growing leadership role in education reform and commitment to the continental goal of ending learning poverty by 2035.
“We are proud to lead this conversation. Ghana believes that every child deserves foundational skills and opportunities to thrive in a fast-changing world,” the Minister noted.
The Triennale, themed “Strengthening the resilience of Africa’s educational systems: advancing towards ending learning poverty by 2035 with a well-educated and skilled workforce for the continent and beyond,” will convene senior policymakers, researchers, and innovators from institutions such as the World Bank, the African Development Bank, UNESCO, the Gates Foundation, and the MasterCard Foundation.
According to the Ministry, the three-day conference will serve as a platform for peer learning and partnership building. Participants will share knowledge on improving foundational learning, teacher development, education financing, and digital transformation in schools.
“Across Africa, we face challenges of inequity, poor learning outcomes, and underfunding,” the Minister said.
“But this Triennale is about turning those challenges into opportunities that redefine education for the next generation.”
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to partnerships that enhance education quality through sustained investments in infrastructure, teacher training, and curriculum development.
President John Dramani Mahama is expected to open the conference, signaling Ghana’s renewed drive to position education as the foundation of Africa’s social and economic transformation.
Prospective participants can register via the ADEA website at triennale.adeanet.org/form/registration.
