Government raises cocoa producer price to GH¢58k per tonne for 2025/26 season

The government has announced a fresh increase in the cocoa producer price for the 2025/26 season, raising it to GH¢58,000 per tonne, a 12.27 percent jump.
The decision, contained in a statement released by the Ministry of Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, on Thursday, follows weeks of consultations with stakeholders after an earlier price of GH¢51,660 per tonne was announced in August.
“The new producer price of cocoa has been reviewed upwards from GH¢3,228.75 to GH¢3,625 per bag, equivalent to GH¢58,000 per tonne,” Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson said.
“This represents an increase of about GH¢400 per bag. The new price takes effect on Friday, October 3, 2025.”
He noted that the adjustment was necessary to ensure farmers receive fairer compensation given the rising global cocoa prices.
“Government remains committed to supporting the Ghana Cocoa Board to build a robust and resilient cocoa industry that provides sustainable and optimal benefits to all stakeholders,” he added.
The ministry further clarified that margins, fees, and rates to other stakeholders, including the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), remain unchanged despite the new pricing.
COCOBOD, in its interventions, is expected to continue programs that enhance productivity and improve farmer livelihoods.
“We will intensify the supply of free cocoa fertilizers, both liquid and granular, along with free insecticides, spraying machines, fungicides and flower inducers,” the statement assured.
The government also highlighted its commitment to social interventions. “COCOBOD remains on track to implement the new Tertiary Education Scholarship Scheme for children of cocoa farmers in the 2026/27 academic year,” Dr. Forson said.

The move demonstrates the government’s commitment to safeguarding Ghana’s cocoa industry, which contributes significantly to foreign exchange earnings and supports millions of livelihoods.
