Greater Accra Kusasi Chief meets Kaneshie Police Command to promote peace and unity
In a decisive move to deepen inter-ethnic harmony and prevent conflict spillover into the capital, the newly selected Greater Accra Kusaasi Chief, Naba Faisal Mahama Abugri, on Thursday, July 31, led a delegation of Kusaasi leaders to the Kaneshie District Police Command to discuss peacebuilding and conflict prevention strategies.
The engagement focused on strengthening collaboration between the police and the Kusaasi community in light of the ongoing chieftaincy conflict in Bawku. The visit also highlighted the shared responsibility of community leaders and security agencies in promoting peaceful coexistence between the Kusaasi and Mamprusi communities residing in Accra.
The District Police Commander and her team warmly welcomed the delegation and praised their unified front, describing it as a positive signal of responsible leadership and proactive citizenship. She urged continued cooperation between the community and the police to maintain calm and forestall any attempts to replicate the Bawku tensions in the Greater Accra Region.
Chief Faisal expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and commended the Kaneshie District Command for its openness and commitment to dialogue. He reiterated the Kusaasi community’s unwavering commitment to peace, lawfulness, and nation-building.
“We cannot allow divisions in Bawku to be transplanted to Accra. Peace is our collective duty. Our community stands fully committed to safeguarding it,” he stated.
As part of the visit, Chief Faisal presented a working document detailing practical conflict prevention mechanisms and community-led initiatives to foster peaceful engagement, especially in neighborhoods where both ethnic groups reside.
