Hooliganism: GES slaps two-year ban on three Koforidua SECTEC, New Juaben, Nsutem Technical

The Ghana Education Service has banned three Eastern Region second cycle schools for two years over violence during a regional sports competition.
The affected schools, Koforidua Senior High Technical School (SECTEC), New Juaben Senior High School and Nsutem Senior High Technical School (SECTEC), were sanctioned following disturbances linked to the recent Regional Super Zonal Sports Games in Koforidua.
In a letter dated February 11, 2026, the Eastern Regional Directorate of the Ghana Education Service stated that it had “expressed their displeasure in the recent incidents before, during and after the Regional Super Zonal Sports (Games) Competition.”
The letter explained that in accordance with the GES Code of Conduct and the Eastern Region Schools and Colleges Sports Association (ERSCSA) Code of Discipline, students of the affected schools “were found engaging in acts of hooliganism which are unacceptable and contradicts to the rule of discipline in GES.”
Citing ARTICLE VII (Disturbances/Riots/Hooliganisms) and ARTICLE VIII (Sanctions/Punishments), the Directorate announced that the three schools “are BANNED from organizing, spectating or taking part in all Sporting Activities including Quizzes, Debates, Cadetting and Entertainments, in the School, Zone and Region, for a period of Two (2) years effective 11th February, 2026.”
The directive further indicated that each school “is liable to a fine of Five hundred Ghana cedis (Gh¢500.00).”
Additionally, the schools will be “surcharged to pay for the cost of any damage/injury to Property or Individual which shall be determined by a Committee based on the extent of the damage/injury.”
The Regional Directorate urged strict compliance with regulations, stating:
“Please, ensure that your students, staff, old students and other supporters adhere to all rules and regulations governing GES and ERSCSA to avoid any further disciplinary actions.”
