I bring fresh energy, practical ideas to Transport Ministry – Dorcas Affo-Toffey

Deputy Transport Minister-designate, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, says she is bringing “fresh energy and practical ideas” to the Ministry of Transport as she appeared before Parliament’s Appointments Committee for vetting.
The Jomoro MP outlined her vision to improve Ghana’s transport sector with a strong focus on sustainability, innovation, and inclusivity.
During the vetting, Affo-Toffey revealed that only four out of ten electric buses recently imported into the country are currently operational due to charging faults. Despite the setback, she reaffirmed her support for the introduction of electric buses, describing them as both environmentally friendly and cost-effective.
“I fully back the introduction of electric buses because they reduce pollution and are cheaper to run,” she said. “However, we must invest in proper infrastructure, especially charging systems, to make them viable.”
On road safety, she highlighted the need for stricter law enforcement, application of modern technology, and robust public education to curb carnage on the roads.
“Enforcing laws to the letter, technology and education can help address road carnages,” she stated.
The Deputy Minister-designate also hinted at a major transport infrastructure idea—a proposed railway line linking Jomoro in the Western Region to Tema in the Greater Accra Region.
“I will recommend constructing a railway line from Jomoro to Tema to enhance the transport of goods and people,” she told the Committee.
Affo-Toffey also emphasized her commitment to gender equity in the sector, promising to support her minister in advancing the representation and empowerment of women.
“When I’m given the nod, I’ll support my minister to ensure more women rise in the transport sector,” she added.
Dorcas Affo-Toffey is part of the final batch of four deputy ministerial nominees announced by the Minister of State in Charge of Government Communication, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, in a press statement dated July 10, 2025.
On July 17, 2025, Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin officially referred the nominees to the Appointments Committee for vetting and subsequent approval. Their approval will complete President John Mahama’s 60-minister administration, fulfilling a campaign promise to maintain a lean government.
